Pam Leyland, President of Rawlco Radio, announced an exciting new project to support Saskatchewan music.

Rawlco Radio’s Project 10K20 Saskatchewan will fund 80 artists in total. Each year for the next four years, 20 Saskatchewan artists will receive $10,000 from Rawlco Radio to professionally record and master a CD of their music. In addition to the $800,000 in artist funding, an additional $200,000 will be contributed to cover all costs related to the 10K20 program.

Leyland said, “Our first 10K20 Saskatchewan campaign in 2006 was a huge success. We funded 29 Saskatchewan artists and we were thrilled with the quality of the CDs that were produced.” Rawlco Radio’s Project 10K20 is an established program in all the markets where Rawlco Radio operates: In total, more than 269 artists from Saskatchewan and Alberta have received funding.

“Music is a big part of our radio stations and we have terrific talent right in our own backyard” said Leyland. “We’ve been featuring songs from Saskatchewan artists for many years and we’re excited to provide another avenue of support.”

In recent years, Rawlco Radio’s owners Gordon and Doug Rawlinson, have donated millions of dollars to establish institutions such as the Rawlco Resource Centre at the University of Saskatchewan, The Rawlco Centre for Mother Baby Care at Regina General Hospital, the E.A. Rawlinson Centre for the Performing Arts in Prince Albert, the Dekker Centre for the Performing Arts in North Battleford and Rawlco Radio Hall in Persephone Theatre in Saskatoon.

Project 10K20 Saskatchewan will be managed jointly by Rawlco Radio Saskatoon Vice President and General Manager, Jamie Wall, and 10K20 Executive Producer Harreson James.

Previous to his career in radio, Wall was a professional musician and songwriter who performed throughout Western Canada. Harreson James is an experienced musician, producer and songwriter. He has independently released three CDs of his own music with the groups Stone Mason and Fy. He is also a broadcasting professional and graduate of the Ontario Institute of Audio Recording Technology.

In the coming weeks, James will consult with artists and people in Saskatchewan’s music community and select twenty recipients. Their CDs will be completed within one year. Artists interested in applying can download the application form from any Saskatchewan Rawlco Radio station website or email 10k20@rawlco.com.

Rawlco Radio owns and operates twelve radio stations in Saskatchewan, two in Edmonton and one in Calgary.
