Rock 102 stuffs bus full of food, raises $102K for food bank

Rock 102’s annual Stuff the Bus campaign is celebrating another successful year.

The Rawlco radio station’s annual donation drive for the Saskatoon Food Bank and Learning Centre filled a Saskatoon Transit bus Thursday.

The Rock 102 team collected food and cash donations outside the Co-Op store at Centre Mall throughout the day, while the station also promoted a “pay to play” day on the airwaves.

People were able to request any song they wanted throughout the day, as long as they donated to the cause. One listener paid $800 to hear the “Rubber Duckie” song from Sesame Street, for example.

The campaign was also boosted by three $10,000 donations: One each from the Kinsmen Club of Saskatoon, Northridge Developments and Canpotex Ltd.

PotashCorp matched all the donations, bringing the total financial contribution to the food bank to over $102,000.

Aside from the money, thousands of pounds in food was collected at Centre Mall. The generosity meant crew members had to transport some donations directly to the food bank throughout the day to make room in the bus for more.

The total weight of the food donation will be calculated by the food bank and released at a later time.
